Affordable local, organic veggies from Al Shuwib farms

In my opinion organic food should be widely available and affordable for anyone and this is why I support businesses with exactly these ethics as much as I can. Al Shuwib organic farms are one of the few businesses that have fresh, high quality, organic, locally grown vegetables at very fair prices and they conveniently deliver to your doorstep.

Al Shuwib Organics farm started out as a family business in 2009 and has quickly expanded for commercial purposes. The farm is located close to the Omani boarder in the Shuwib desert where they grow over 60 different vegetables in 80 greenhouses and open fields without using any chemical fertilisers or insecticides. The farm is accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM) and the Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA).

In the pictures you can see my recent purchase. I ordered 1kg of curly kale, 1 kg of long kale, 1kg of cucumber, 500 grams of cherry tomatoes, 1kg of red beets, 1 kg of parsley, 1kg of rocket, 1kg of kohlrabi and one kg of radish. All together I paid 120.50 dirhams for 8kg of fresh, organic, locally grown vegetables.
I use kale and red beet in my daily smoothies, so I will be freezing most of it. Some of the cherry tomatoes, which are the sweetest I have had in a  long time will be dehydrated. With the rest of the vegetables I will make delicious salads and Buddha bowls.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing! Ill give it a try next week. Would you know of any place where I can order (or get) some local grown fruit?
    Thanks!

    1. Hello Juliette, I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I don’t think there are many locally grown fruits in the U.A.E. I have lemon, lime, mulberry and orange trees in the garden which do well here. Apparently guava, mango and jujube grow well too. And of course there are dates, I buy mine from Organics food and cafe 1kg/19.50dhs or from Mawasim in Mushrif 1kg/20dhs. Mawasim in Mushrif has affordable imported, organic fruits I love their other organic products. They have cheap chia seeds 1kg/15dhs and quinoa at around 20dhs/kg. Organic Oasis in Dubai (they deliver with a 40 dirham charge to Abu Dhabi) also offer a fruit box which only hand s a few locally grown fruits. Ripe market (every Saturday in Umm Al Emarat (old Mushrif park) also sells fruits, but again I don’t think that they are locally grown. I will be visiting all the organic farms in U.A.E. over the next months and blogging all about it here so I will get back to you in case I find any. Have a wonderful evening.

      1. Hello Dora, I am not sure if you are looking for fresh leaves or dried leaves for tea? Guava trees are sold in the Mena plant market and also at the Bahia plant nursery outside the city. I have never seen fresh leaves sold anywhere though but I will definitely be keeping an eye out for you.
