Bentonite is a clay that is made from volcano ash, such as the volcanos from Wyoming. The grey powder does not look very spectacular, but the health benefits are enormous. Bentonite can be used to detox the body internally and help with cuts and wounds externally. There are many toxins in our food, cleaning products and in our environment like pesticides and heavy metals. The clay expands inside the stomach and helps to soak up the toxins, while increasing immunity and reducing inflammation.
I have not found food-grade bentonite for sale anywhere in U.A.E., but the bentonite powder is sold on iHerb from now foods for 41 dirhams/454gr and frontier for 40dirhams/453gr. Bentonite clay can be used on the skin to heal eczema, dermatitis, bites, stings and burns. For this the clay is mixed with water to get a gel-like consistency, for this I use 2 parts water and 1 part bentonite clay. I then apply the clay onto the area and wait for it to dry. While the clay is drying it binds all the bacteria and toxins in the skin pores and therefore reduces inflammation. Applying bentonite clay also speeds up the healing process. Another way to feel all the benefits of bentonite is to take baths in it, it leaves the skin smooth and hydrated. I use one cup of bentonite when I take a bath, but I mix it in a blender before, as it might be very clumpy otherwise.
Since bentonite clay is not very easily available it is a cheaper option to drink bentonite clay water. The clay also helps to clean the gut, by removing toxins and decreasing the bad bacteria. At the same time it also kills harmful viruses and boosts the immune system. I use one teaspoon of bentonite clay in a glass of water and stir it until the clay is almost dissolved. To make a larger quantity I mix 1/4 cup of clay in one gallon of water and stir it. Once the clay settled at the bottom I mix it again and only drink the clear water on top.
Bentonite is a common ingredient in natural toothpaste, the clay has similar benefits to oil pulling as it is antibacterial. It binds all the unhealthy bacteria in the mouth and as long as the powder is fine enough it does not harm the teeth.
