Before being diagnosed with PCOS I was on birth control for many years due to irregular periods and cysts. When I first started taking the pill I did gain some weight, however I was able to lose it quickly again. I had no other noticeable side effects until I went off the pill and it took my body over 3 years to start producing its own hormones again. The birth control only covers up PCOS symptoms and does not solve the actual root cause, which results in bigger issues long-term.
After coconut oil, castor oil is probably my favourite oil when it comes to home remedies. I have recently started loosing a lot of my eyelashes and eyebrows and castor oil has been a life saver.
Magnesium is probably one of the most important elements that our bodies need to survive. Is important for healthy bone formation, regulating blood pressure, maintaining heart health, energy production and nerve functions. It also aids in blood sugar control. A magnesium deficiency is a little difficult to diagnose, as magnesium can not be measured with a normal blood serum test. The serum contains less than 1% of the body’s total magnesium. A more accurate alternative would be a RBC magnesim test which checks the amount of magnesium in the red blood cells.
After many years of symptoms I was diagnosed with the polycystic ovarian syndrome. My blood tests showed elevated levels of oestrogen and LH (luteinizing hormone) in a combination with very low progesterone. My vaginal ultrasounds showed many cysts on both ovaries and I finally had an explanation for my irregular periods, acne, mood swings and infertility.
Dogs have always been my passion, I spent my whole child-hood learning about different dog breeds and walking the neighbours dogs. When I was 16 I got my first puppy, and while it was one of the best decisions I have ever made, I do believe that he restricted me in a lot of life decision.
I am a huge fan of probiotics and I am constantly looking to improve my gut health. Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that improve the digestive system. They are naturally found in human bodies, however taking antibiotics or eating an unhealthy diet can lead to an imbalance of good and bad bacteria. Apart from antibiotics sugar, GMO foods, stress and other medications can also destroy good gut bacteria. When the body loses too many good bacteria, taking a probiotic supplement can help to replace them.
My favourite supermarket in Abu Dhabi is Mawasim, located in the Mushrif area. I have been a huge fan from the beginning and they are slowly getting more and more products. For everyone who loves organic fruits and vegetables as much as me and is looking for affordable staples this is the right place to go to. I love supporting small local businesses that believe in the same things I do: affordable organic foods, that are good for the planet and for us.
